We're building a community that is as self-sustainable as possible, and we're hoping that our experience can help educate and inspire others to do the same!

Hi there, We're the Grid-Gone Project

About

As we go we're documenting our progress, and working to educate Americans about this refreshed way of living. We invite you to join us on our journey, learn with us and maybe even start a community of your own!

So we're creating a self-sustainable community that can continue thriving when the grids eventually fail. We'd love to have our own mini-grids to use but, failing that, we want to be able to thrive with no electricity at all.

We aren't anti-electricity luddites by any means, we just know how vulnerable the electrical grids are. Government at all levels has known this for decades, and they've done nothing.

We're don't exactly trust national grids

Sustainable

A sudden loss of the electrical grids will definitely pop us back to the pre-electric, or even pre-industrial age, if we aren't prepared. However, contrary to popular belief, that does not mean that all social and psychological growth has to likewise revert. While loss of electrical and mechanical assistance will mean that certain tasks will more likely need to be divided along the lines of physical sex, the members of the Grid-Gone Project hold that this division is more descriptive, than prescriptive.

"A big problem with a lot of 'prepper' or 'homesteading' groups, in my experience, is that too many people want a return to 19th Century social norms."

Moreover, a serious look into the history of the working and peasant classes shows that what has been recently considered "traditional" for the family - the wife tackling all childcare and everyday tasks while the husband leaves the home to "work" - is far from traditional, much less healthy or sustainable. Pre-Industrial life was far more communal in nature, and the return to community is exactly what 21st Century Americans have been lacking.
